Pharmacists Forum Elects Committee

The Bangladesh Pharmacists Forum (BPF), the nation’s largest organization representing pharmacists, has recently elected a new executive committee to lead its efforts in advancing the profession and advocating for pharmacists’ rights. The election, held during a general meeting on October 11 in Dhaka, marked a significant step toward enhancing the quality of healthcare and establishing a hospital pharmacy system in Bangladesh. With a full 51-member committee now in place, the BPF aims to bolster the professional standards of graduate pharmacists, create more employment opportunities, and play a crucial role in shaping the future of the country’s pharmaceutical sector.

Md. Ajibur Rahman has been elected as the President of the Bangladesh Pharmacists Forum, while Mohammad Mehedi Hasan Tanveer has taken the role of General Secretary. The newly formed executive committee consists of 51 members, who will serve to strengthen the organization’s influence and carry forward its mission. The committee also includes several vice presidents, secretaries for various departments, and executive members, reflecting a diverse representation of leaders from different sectors of the pharmacy community.

The general meeting gathered pharmacists and industry stakeholders to discuss strategies for elevating the standards of the profession. Attendees included the Forum’s Chief Advisor Md. Aminul Islam, Biopharma Ltd.’s Deputy Managing Director Md. Saiful Islam, senior pharmacist Md. Belayet Hossain, and recent former President Md. Harun R. Rashid. Approximately 15 chairpersons of pharmaceutical companies and nearly a hundred senior and junior pharmacists from various universities and pharmaceutical companies also participated in the meeting.

During the meeting, important positions within the Executive Committee were filled through discussions and consensus, underscoring the organization’s commitment to maintaining a non-political and non-profit approach. The BPF leadership expressed a shared vision of advancing the professional interests of pharmacists while contributing to the healthcare sector in Bangladesh.

The Forum intends to promote a hospital pharmacy system, which would enhance patient care by employing graduate pharmacists in healthcare facilities. The establishment of hospital pharmacies is seen as a step towards creating more employment opportunities for pharmacists, as well as setting higher professional standards within the industry.
