Two fake RAB members arrested in Tangail

Police have arrested two people in connection with their alleged involvement in looting around Tk 20 lakh from a bus passenger in the guise of the elite force members in Mirzapur upazila of Tangail.

Tangail’s Superintendent of Police Sarkar Mohammad Qaiser disclosed the information in a press briefing held at the conference room of his office on Tuesday afternoon.

The arrestees are identified as Safar Uddin Munna, son of late Ayub Ali of Narayanpur village under Kotwali Police Station of Mymensingh and Shamim Ahmmed, son of late Moshrraf Hossain of Darigaon village in Homna upazilla of Cumilla.

The police super said that four robbers including two arrestees got on the ‘Binimoy’ bus identifying themselves as RAB members at Shubhullya area of Tangail’s Mirzapur on the highway on August 22.  Later, they blindfolded victim Helal Molla and forced him to get in a private car. At one point, they dropped Helal from the private car after snatching around Tk 20 lakh form him.

On August 23, Helal Molla filed a case with Mirzapur Police Station. Following the case, a team of DB and Mirzapur Thana Police arrested one from Mymensingh and the other from Satkhira.

A private car (Dhaka Metro-G 375070), mobiles, motorcycles and Tk 1 lakh were recovered from them. Later, the accused were produced before a court seeking 10-day remand.
