BSMMU observes National Mourning Day

On 15th August ,2023 ,under the initiative of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University ,wreaths were placed at Bangabandhu Mural at university campus, and also at Bangabandhu portrait in  Dhanmondi ,32.

Free specialist medical services, free tests, kidney transplant, breast cancer surgery, laparoscopic surgery, ERCP, distribution of free Hepatitis C virus medicine, voluntary blood donation ,free blood group checking and inauguration of photo gallery, were conducted on the National Mourning Day. Honorable Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Professor. Md. Sharfuddin Ahmed was present as chief guest on the occasion of the National Mourning Day.

The national flag and the university flag were hoisted and lowered to half-mast in front of Sheikh Russell Fountain at 7 am. Free blood giving program and blood groups checking were performed under the initiative of the Department of Transfusion Medicine in front of the mural of the Bangabandhu. At this time, the Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Md Sharfuddin Ahmed paid homage to all the martyrs who died on August 15th. He then said, “Bangladesh would not have existed, if Bangabandhu was not born. Bangabandhu gave his blood for Bangladesh. We will never repay the debt of Bangabandhu and his family.

But we can repay that debt even a little bit by saving the poor patients through voluntary blood donation and that will be the illustration of showing respect to Bangabandhu’s memory.’’
