ASI sued for ‘raping’ woman in Jhalakathi

A case was filed on Tuesday in Jhalakathi district against an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) on charge of rape a divorced woman, 30, at Rajapur upazila in the district.

The victim woman filed the case with Jhalakathi Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal in the afternoon against Al Alamin Molla, 42, ASI of Barishal’s Muladi Police Station, hailed from Patuakhali’s Dumki upazila.

The court judge Abdul Hamid ordered  Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the case.

According to the case statement, on December 13, 2022, the victim woman went to ASI Alamin at Rajapur Police Station to inform about a family dispute. Based on that incident, ASI developed an affair with the woman. Till August 20, 2023, ASI Alamin, while working at Rajapur and Nalchhiti police stations, took the woman to different hotels and raped her.
