Two children died after falling into a pond while trying to pluck guava at Satarpara village in Palashbari upazila of the district on Friday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Rumpa, 7, and Rafia Raihan Mia, 5, resident of the village. They are cousins in relation.
Betkapa union parishad chairman Mostafizur Rahman said the children climbed the guava tree to pluck fruits in the afternoon. Suddenly a branch broke and the children fell into the pond right next to the tree and drowned. Later, local people recovered the bodies of the two children from the pond.
