Man gets life for killing wife

A court here today sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for killing his wife in Molamgari village under Kalai upazila of the district in 2002.

Additional District and Sessions Judge court-2 Judge Md Abbas Uddin pronounced the verdict, in absence of the accused, this afternoon.

The convict is – Ashir Uddin, son of late Ofir Uddin, resident of Molamgari village of Kalai upazila of the district.

The court also fined him Taka 10,000.

According to the details of the case, on the evening of December 15, 2002, Ashir Uddin went to the nearby Bamangram to attend a religious meeting with his wife. The next day on December 16, 2002 local people found the body of housewife Mahfuza Khatun alias Anju in the crop field of Molamgari village of Kalai upazila.

Being informed, police recovered the body from the spot and sent it to the hospital morgue.

The victim’s uncle A. Hamid Sardar filed a murder case in Kalai police station as the plaintiff in this connection.

The investigating officer of the case, Aminul Islam, filed a charge-sheet against the husband in the court on April 30, 2003.

After examining the record and witnesses, the court found him guilty.

Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Nripendranath Mondal confirmed the matter.
