VGF rice being distributed in Rangpur

The government is distributing 2,863.45 tonnes of rice to 2,86,345 poor families as a gift from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina under the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) program before the Eid-ul-Azha festivity.

“Distribution of the VGF rice to selected card holder beneficiary families with 10-kg of rice each continues and will complete before the Eid-ul-Azha festivity in the district,” District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer (DRRO) Md. Motahar Hossain told DBU.

Earlier, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief allocated the rice for distribution among the poor and distressed families of all 76 unions and three municipalities in eight upazilas of the district.

The upazila administrations with assistance of local public representatives and union level committees are distributing the rice among the listed VGF card holder families ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha festivity.

Under the program, 15,635 VGF card holder families will receive 156.35 tonnes of rice in Sadar, 68,403 families will get 684.03 tonnes in Mithapukur, 38,212 families will get 382.12 tonnes in Pirganj and 48,384 families will get 483.84 tonnes of rice in Pirgachha upazilas.

Besides, 27,592 families will receive 275.92 tonnes of VGF rice in Kawnia, 42,825 families will get 428.25 tonnes in Gangachara, 23,898 families will get 238.98 tonnes in Badarganj and 13,694 families will receive 136.94 tonnes of rice in Taraganj upazilas.

In addition to this, 30.81 tonnes of VGF rice will be distributed to 3,081 card holder families each in Badarganj and Pirganj municipalities and 15.40 tonnes of rice will be distributed to 1,540 families in Haragachh municipality.

Talking to DBU, Chairman Masud Rana of Saddyapuskorini Union in Sadar upazila said he has already completed distribution of 36.51 tonnes of VGF rice to 3,651 selected card holder poor families of his union.

Talking to DBU, beneficiaries Hamidur Rahman, Bulbuli Begum, Nasima Khatun, Aklima and Nurun Nahar of different villages in Sadar upazila thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after getting 10-kg of VGF rice each before the Eid-ul-Azha festival.
