Area-wise load shedding starts

The area-wise load shedding in the country
started today on one-hour basis aiming to deal with the power shortage.

Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr
Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury made this announcement on Monday.

In continuation of that, Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC), a
Public Limited Company under the Power Division of the Ministry of Power,
Energy, and Mineral Resources, started the load shedding from 10 am today.

At the same time, Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (DESCO) also started
load shedding.

The two organisations have already given a list of where and when the load
shedding will take place.

“Area-wise load shedding started from 10 am and it will continue till 10 pm,”
said DPDC Chief Engineer Kamrul Azam.

The DPDC official added that load shedding will not take place at the same
time in one region every day.

He said the time of the load shedding would be reshuffled in the areas.

The government informed about the decision of area-wise load shedding across
the country to deal with the power crisis at the electricity and energy
coordination meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Monday.

The load shedding can be increased to two hours and from now on, petrol pumps
will remain close one day in a week.

The government also decided to suspend the production of diesel-based power
plants to save costs on a temporary basis.
