Govt won’t tolerate anarchy in name of agitation

Issuing a note of warning, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today said the government will not tolerate any kind of destructive activities in the name of one-point agitation.

“Law enforcement agencies will take legal actions against the people who will resort to destructive activities in the name of a one-point agitation for toppling the government,” he said while responding to a question after a security-preparation meeting on the occasion of National Mourning Day and 48th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the ministry’s conference room here.

The minister said that the government would not allow any ‘killing plan’ in the name of a one-point movement on the eve of the month of August.

“Militant groups as well as anti-liberation forces, who hatched conspiracies against Bangabandhu, have chosen the month of August to carry out destructive activities,” he said.

Kamal, also a veteran freedom fighter, said, “There was an attempt to blow up our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 21, 2004 and attempts were made to blow up 63 districts on August 17, 2005. So, August is their favourite month for hatching conspiracies.”

“They always choose this month of August. I think they are giving such hints in the name of the one-point movement,” he added.

The home minister said that tight security will be ensured on the occasion of the National Mourning Day and the 48th Martyrdom Anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

He said, “People have already rejected those who are talking about the one-point movement. People do not support them in any movement. They warn of movement year after year. If there is no involvement of people, the movement will never be successful.”

“If they do destructive activities in the name of the movement and hatch a plot to kill us, the law enforcement agencies will definitely take legal actions,” he added.

Replying to another question about the National Identity Card (NID), Kamal said that NID activity is yet to come under the Home Ministry.

“Leakage of citizens’ information will be investigated. None will be spared if their involvement is found. Our cyber unit has started work. Special measures will be taken to secure the database,” he said.
