Don’t sell antibiotics without doctor’s prescription

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) published reports on the presence of harmful microorganisms in the human body, the effectiveness of antibiotics in killing microbes, and the antimicrobial susceptibility of all types of germs as a function of publishing reports on the susceptibility of antimicrobials at the Shahid Dr. Milton Hall of BSMMU.

The Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Professor Dr. Md. Sharfuddin Ahmed, was present at the program as a chief guest. “Antibiotics should be prescribed after performing the necessary tests. Doctors must know the latest efficacy of antibiotics,” he addressed the function. “Antibiotics are changeable. So, the doctors should know the latest status of antibiotic effectiveness. Indiscriminate use of antibiotics should be prevented socially and administratively”, he added.

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology published reports of antimicrobial susceptibility of all types of pathogens in patients’ samples completed from January 2022 to July 2023. The chairman of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Professor Dr. Abu Naser Ibne Sattar, presided over the event. Dr. Chandan Kumar Roy, Associate Professor of Microbiology, highlighted the existing technologies for the identification of microbes in patients’ samples, the determination of the antimicrobial susceptibility of microorganisms, and the role of this department in tackling antimicrobial resistance.
