Four killed as truck rams auto-rickshaw in Rangpur

Four people were killed and three others injured after a truck rammed an auto-rickshaw in Mahiganj area in Rangpur city on Tuesday.

The deceased were auto-rickshaw driver Raza Miah, 45, and passengers Geeta Rani, 60, Shahjahan Miah, 55, and a four-year-old child.

Rangpur Fire Service and Civil Defence station officer Masudul Alam said a sand-laden truck crushed a battery-run auto-rickshaw in Soreyartol area at around 1:00 pm, leaving two people dead on the spot and five others injured.

The injured were taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where two more people succumbed to their injuries, he added.
On information, police recovered the bodies, said Mahiganj Police Station officer in-charge (OC) Mostafizur Rahman.

Police also detained driver along with the truck, the OC further said.
