Four missing after boat capsizes in Ctg

At least four people, including three children, went missing after a boat sank in floodwater in Satkania upazila of Chattogram on Tuesday evening. They are Sanjida Akter Adira, 4, Jannatul Ferdous, 4, Md Shahidul Islam, 3, and Abdur Rahim. Witnesses said the incident took place around 5pm on Tuesday when the boat carrying three children, a man and a woman, at Charati union’s ward-7 due to strong current in the floodwater caused by upstream water and incessant rain. All the passengers except for four managed to swim ashore.

Union Parishad Chairman Ruhullah Chowdhury acknowledging the matter said they tried to inform the fire service officials but failed as there was no power and mobile network due to the flood. Later they conduct rescue operation locally.

Deputy Director of Chittagong Fire Service Abdul Halim said they were unable to go to the spot even after receiving the news of the incident. Due to a power outage in Chattogram for the past two days amid heavy rain, the fire service could not contact the local team to run a rescue operation, he added.
