Inflation eases further at 9.69% in July

The general point-to-point inflation rate declined  slightly last month (July) as it came down by 0.05 percentage point to 9.69 percentage point in July, 2023.

The general point-to-point inflation rate in June, 2023 was 9.74 percentage point, according to the latest data of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics

This was the second consecutive month the consumer price index (CPI)
witnessed decline since May when inflation rose to 9.94 percentage point.

Although the food inflation witnessed slight increase last month, but the
non-food inflation rate came down last month.

The BBS data showed that the food inflation increased to 9.76 percentage
point in July 2023 from 9.73 percentage point in the previous month, while
the non-food inflation rate declined slightly to 9.47 percentage point last
month from 9.60 percentage point in June, 2023.

The general point to point inflation both at the urban and rural areas also
declined last month.

The point to point inflation in the rural areas in July was 9.75 percentage
point down from 9.82 percentage point in June. On the other hand, the point to point inflation in the urban areas in July was 9.43 percent down from 9.45 percent in June.

The wage rate index in July witnessed an uptrend with 7.52 percent which was
7.39 percent in June.
