The 18th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Highway Police, a specialized unit of Bangladesh Police that is responsible for law enforcement on roads, will be observed in the country tomorrow in a befitting manner.
On the eve of the day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued a message greeting all members of the Bangladesh Highway Police and wished the programmes of the day a success.
Marking the day, a discussion will be held at Bangladesh Police Auditorium in city’s Rajarbagh area at 11 am tomorrow.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan will be present in the programme as the chief guest while Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun will preside over it.
In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said: “I am happy to know that the 18th anniversary of Bangladesh Highway Police will be celebrated. On this occasion, I convey my sincere greetings and congratulations to all the members of the Highway Police.”
Noting that Bangladesh Police has a golden history of glorious sacrifice and heroism in the Great War of Liberation, the premier said responding to the call of the greatest Bangalee ever and the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the first armed resistance was formed by the fearless brave policemen on the night of March 25 in 1971.
She remembered with deep respect the patriotic brave policemen who sacrificed their lives for the independence of the beloved motherland.
“Following the footsteps of the Father of the Nation, we have taken all necessary steps for the development and modernization of the police,” she added.
All efforts are being continued to make Bangladesh Police modern, up-to-date, efficient and pro-people by taking effective measures in the areas of increasing the manpower of the force, forming new units, developing physical infrastructures, increasing modern vehicles and logistics facilities, ensuring state-of-the-art training facilities, establishing welfare trusts and banks for the overall welfare of policemen and improving housing and medical facilities, she continued.
She hoped that every member of the Highway Police would fulfill their duties being imbued with the spirit of the great Liberation War and patriotism.
“You will work tirelessly to become the ‘People’s Police’ expected by the Father of the Nation by performing duties with honesty, devotion and humanity,” she said.
“Through the implementation of ‘Vision 2041’ and with the united efforts of all, we will be able to build the ‘Smart Bangladesh’ cum golden Bangladesh as dreamt by the Father of the Nation. Insha Allah,” the premier said.
