Improvement is necessary: Honorable Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam

Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) Honorable Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam said that in the medical profession, the relationship between doctors and pharmaceutical industries has been widely discussed and criticized on the issue of ethics. In this regard, it is important to improve the relationship between doctors and pharmaceutical industry on ethical standards. Pharmaceutical companies also have to follow the limits of ethics. Doctors also have to provide services to patients by understanding the dignity and importance of the medical profession. The responsibility of a doctor is to ensure the highest welfare of the patient, which should never be influenced by anything.  It is not desirable to do anything that is against the interests of the patient and questions the transparency of the medical system. Pharmaceutical companies should also maintain ethics in their marketing strategies and perform their duties with professional integrity. A credible and humane health system should be built with mutual cooperation between doctors and the pharmaceutical industry. Where the most important thing is the welfare of the patient and proper medical care along with humanity. The Honorable Vice Chancellor said these things as the chief guest in the ‘Master Class on Adolescent Endocrinology’ program as part of the pre-congress on the occasion of the Second International Scientific Conference of the Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology Society of Bangladesh on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at the Shaheed Dr. Milon Hall of BMU.

At this time, Honorable Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam said, in the current era of modern medical science and technology, there is no opportunity to ignore evidence-based medicine or evidence-based treatment.  If evidence-based medicine can be spread, there will be a big change in overall medicine, including protecting the interests of patients and the public. All concerned should take the initiative to reduce the medical costs of patients by implementing evidence-based medicine.

Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam also said that medical audit has a great role in improving the quality of medical services, including improving the quality of healthcare. At present, the word medical audit seems to be getting lost. But it is possible to improve medical services to the desired level through medical audit. Therefore, everyone should be more aware and proactive in this regard.
