Raushan for quick steps to tackle flood situation

Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and chief patron of Jatiya Party Begum Raushan Ershad has urged the government to take quick steps to tackle the flood situation in the country.

“The government will have to take quick steps to tackle the flood situation,” she said in a statement today.

“Due to the severe erosion of the Jamuna River caused by the upstream flow of water, many lands and houses in Tangail and Sirajganj are going under water,” said Raushan.

Following the rise in water level of different rivers, including the Dudhkumar, Dharla, Teesta and Brahmaputra, Surma and Kushiara, and nonstop rains, flood has occurred in many places of Gaibandha, Jamalpur, Kurigram, Bogura, Sirajganj, Sylhet, Sunamganj and Netrokona districts, she added.

“Especially the situation in Sylhet and Netrokona is getting worse as many people have been marooned there,” she said.
