The survey conducted by Micro Industries Development Assistance and Services (MIDAS), Bangladesh with the help of power cell

titled “Customer Satisfaction Survey with Recommendation of Quality Power Supply including SAIDI/SAIFI” The survey findings were released at a press briefing at the Bidyut Bhaban on Thursday.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has said that all necessary steps have been taken by the government to ensure energy security.

“The government is working to ensure energy security. The effects of the global pandemic and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war have not deterred us from achieving our goals.

Despite global crisis, we have been able to maintain an uninterrupted supply of fuel oil, gas and LPG,” he said

He also said that efficient, cost-effective use and diversification of energy will contribute effectively to energy security.

In the survey, 93.81% respondents said they were satisfied with development measures taken by the government.

“The purpose of the survey was to understand the people’s perception about the government’s initiative on the development of power sector,”

he said. ” We managed to make electricity available to the people, but the important thing is what the people are thinking about it,” he said.

Since 2009, a total of 9,254 MW electricity has been added to the national grid with additional 87 new plants raising the power generation to over 16,000 MW. The government plans to raise the capacity to 24,000 MW by 2021 and 40,000 MW by 2040.

Electricity plays pivotal role for the socio-economic development of a country. Government’s vision is to provide quality electricity in cost-effective and affordable manner as well as ensure reliable electricity for all.

Currently, the Bangladesh has surplus electricity compared to the demand.

Many good initiatives are taken in power sector but sometimes, consumers may face interruption of power due to network constraint.

Whatever the reason by nature of the product people can’t accept absence of electricity even for some moments. Although customer service improved significantly still it

requires further service improvement to fulfill customer expectation. Major expectations of the customers are minimum interruption, quick service restoration, easy bill payment, complaint lodge and settlement and other service assistance.

As such Government intends to appoint a consultant to carry out public perception survey on Customer

“Efficient and time befitting initiatives by the present government also helped the consumers get electricity connections easily,” Nasrul said.

He said now the ministry has been working unremittingly for building “Sonar Bangla” as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is pledge-bound to make ‘Digital Bangladesh’ by ensuring access to power for all citizens by 2021, he added.

As it is the right of consumers to get better services, the government has to deliver better services to consumer’s doorstep, said the sources.

More than15,245 customers took part in a survey while household customers were 13862 (90.93), Industrial customers 135 (0.89), commercial customers 1220 (8),

Agricultural customers 28 (0.18), 87.13% of consumers remain “satisfied” over the quality of electricity. 93.81% percent people are satisfied with the power supply situation in the country, according to a survey.
