The Dhaka Cantonment Police Station has come under intense scrutiny following a series of grave allegations against its Officer-in-Charge (OC), Md. Abdul Alim. Victims and locals accuse him of gross abuse of power, including bribery, aiding terrorists and land grabbers, physical abuse of detainees, and filing false cases.
Two victims from the Matikata area—Md. Shahzada Mia and Md. Ariful Ali—have formally submitted written complaints to the Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and the Inspector General of Police’s Complaint Monitoring Cell at Police Headquarters, calling for immediate action and justice.
Md. Shahzada Mia, a caretaker of a 10-storey building located on 8 katha land under Dakshin Manikadi Holding No. 512, described a disturbing pattern of violence connected to local terrorist Masud and his group. The building, situated on City Dag Nos. 34301, 34304, and 34306, became the center of a land boundary conflict.
On May 7, Masud and his accomplices allegedly harassed and assaulted construction workers. The situation escalated on May 13 when they forcefully entered the construction site with country-made weapons, vandalized property, and beat workers, causing severe injuries. Md. Taj Uddin Bhuiyan, a relative of a building shareholder, was brutally attacked with machetes, rods, and bricks, leaving him critically wounded and hospitalized.
Shahzada Mia attempted to lodge a complaint at the Cantonment Police Station but was reportedly attacked again by terrorist Rashed and his men while waiting for OC Abdul Alim. Shockingly, upon the OC’s arrival, Shahzada himself was detained, tortured, and intimidated inside the station lock-up.
Another complainant, Md. Ariful Ali, has alleged that OC Alim registered a false case against him on October 28, listing 17 innocent individuals while excluding the real perpetrator—Babul Hossain, a known extortionist. Despite being caught red-handed by army personnel for extortion, Babul’s name was mysteriously removed from the official charge sheet. The complainant accuses OC Alim of shielding Babul in exchange for bribes and favors.
Both victims allege that OC Abdul Alim has developed a pattern of suppressing the voices of the innocent while protecting criminals. It is further alleged that he has amassed substantial illegal wealth in a short span, built a network of corrupt officers, and routinely disregards orders from higher authorities.
Sources within DMP confirm that a confidential investigation led by Additional Commissioner Mueed Mohammad Rubel found most of the allegations against OC Alim to be true. The probe revealed that although Alim originally joined the force as a constable, he was unusually promoted as an outside cadet SI in 2008.
The report also highlighted his unprofessional conduct, frequent presence in luxury venues outside his jurisdiction, and poor working relationships with subordinates. He reportedly identifies himself as a BNP supporter, further complicating his standing within the force.
Victims and community members are now demanding immediate action from the DMP and IGP to remove OC Abdul Alim from duty and ensure a transparent, impartial investigation. They insist on restoring public trust in law enforcement by rooting out corruption and holding abusive officials accountable.
“The police should be protectors of the people, not agents of terror and corruption,” said a relative of one of the victims. “We demand justice—not just for ourselves, but for every citizen suffering in silence.”
The DMP has yet to issue an official statement regarding the allegations.
